Blackberry Pearl 3G Gets Official

The Bold 9650 was not the only device RIM announced at WES.. They've also announced their update to the Blackberry Pearl (finally), the Pearl 3G. Skype and Verizon Tackle International Calls

At MWC this week, Verizon and Skype announced a partnership that would negate the need for exorbitant international calling rates. SkypeOut costs infinitely less to call internationally that what Verizon charges, so this is a great step in the right direction. The partnership will allow for free Skype-to-Skype calls over 3G, SkypeOut calls internationally, and Skype chat. One caveat, though. There is no domestic call capability at the moment, which cripples the service for most users. AT&T already allows it to happen with Fring and soon with Skype, so we're sure to see it on Verizon soon. Why they didn't allow it from the get-go is a mystery to me.

Full press release after the jump.

iCall Live In The App Store as AT&T Lifts VoIP/3G Resrictions

iCall just announced that they are live in the app store and AT&T has allowed VoIP calls to function over 3G. iCall is the only app in the store right now that features the functionality it boasts. iCall allows the user to switch an incoming call over onto data, whether 3G or WiFi. Before today, iCall was restricted to WiFi calls. I haven't givin it a shot yet, but the reports are good. The app is free and available in the app store. Get downloading!
