HTC Wildfire Leaks, Gets Official

What you need to know:
• This Monday morning, a German press conference broke an embargo on the HTC Wildfire
• The Wildfire is an entry level, very affordable HTC smartphone running Android 2.1 with Sense UI and a candybar form factor, a sort of HTC Desire-mini
• Qualcomm MSM7225 processor clocked at 525MHz
• 3.2-inch QVGA touchscreen
• 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash
• 802.11b/g WiFi, GPS/AGPS, Blueooth 2.1+EDR
• 512MB Flash and 384MB of RAM, and microSD expansion
• After the leak, the phone got official on T-Mobile in the UK for £20 ($29)/mo.

Very nice device, but again, not available in the UK. But if it did launch on an affordable carrier, this could be a great device for students who are looking for something affordable, yet don't want to compromise too much in the vein of functionality. Press release after the jump!

HTC Strikes Back At Apple With A Suit Of Their Own

Earlier today, HTC filed a countersuit against Apple calming that they were innovators way before Apple was in respect to mobile devices. They cite their Windows Mobile devices from all the way back in 2002, and other devices in 2007. Then they even go so far as to demand that Apple "halt the importation and sale of the iPhone, iPad and iPod in the United States". HTC also posted a video on YouTube that seems like it was created specifically for this case. Check it out along with the press release after the jump.

myTouch 3G Slide Official On T-Mobile

T-Mobile users will be familiar by now with the myTouch. It was the keyboardless younger brother of the G1 also known as the HTC Magic. Well, the myTouch's successor has been making the rounds and is now official. The myTouch 3G Slide maintains a similar form factor while adding a comfortable-looking physical keyboard. This little guy is also running (thankfully) Android 2.1. Though, it is running a skinned version of it which does add some new functionality like a T-Mobile "myFaces" gallery, "myModes" for ring/vibrate profiles, and  a "Genius Button" which is an amped up voice control implementation. Engadget does say, though that the Genius Button was some of the best voice-to-text they'd seen. The device also swaps the trackball for an optical trackpad which is the current trend in the industry.

[Breaking] HP Picks Up Palm

Well, folks, this is it. The end of an era. Out of left field this afternoon comes news that HP has purchased Palm. HP was one of my top picks to purchase the dying mobile star. HTC passed on Palm, but HP had made no suggestions that they were interested in buying the company. I'm excited. HP is one of the old big players that has a lot of lost time to make up for. HP used to be big in the handset game (PDA, not cell), as did Dell, but the latter is gearing up to catch up to everyone else. With ex-Palm employees, all Palm's IP, WebOS, and a decade's worth of industry know-how, I'm excited to see what kind of mobile plays HP makes now that they're in a position to do so. HP spent a pretty penny on Palm, to the tune of $1.2 Billion, but here's hoping it was worth it. Check out the press release after the jump.

The Droid Incredible I've Been Looking For

Okay, I'm not the first to make that joke, but dammit, I think it's funny. Verizon's got a new go-to device on the Android front. The Droid Incredible is now official on the Big Red. Let me be clear about this: The Droid Incredible is the best Android device you can get as of April 29th in the US. In fact, it might be the best Android device you can get globally (Since the EVO 4G from Sprint isn't out until Summer).

Running Android 2.1 with HTC's beautiful Sense UI, the Incredible turns an incomplete half-awesome stock Android 2.1 experience into a fully-fledged smartphone spit-polished til it sparkles. All of the Sense 2.1 features have been covered at length after the HTC Desire and Legend launch, so I won't touch on those. The hardware, though, is spankin' new. The screen is the same found in the Nexus one, and the innards are very similar, with a few exceptions like the 8GB internal storage. The processor is the same 1GHz Snapdragon found in the Nexus One and the Desire. In fact, the Incredible has much more in common with the Desire than the Nexus One, and I think that's a great thing.

When the Desire launched, all of us in the US were drooling over it wondering if it would ever come here. Well, here it is. The casing is drastically different from anything HTC has done before, but with the same attention to detail. It's very much in line with the raw masculine Droid motif Verizon has been running with. The back is almost rubberized, giving it a grippy feel. Seems like we're getting a new phone to beat almost weekly, but I'm not complaining over here.

Seriously, if you're on Verizon and don't need a physical keyboard, get the Incredible.

Press release with specs after the jump.
