Boxee Box and Beta Get Serious

The Boxee Box manufactured by D-Link is finally official and with that news comes some tantalizing new specs. The Boxee Box is now confirmed to be running Nvidia's Tegra 2 graphics processor. This means it can handle the new UI it's sporting, Adobe Flash 10.1, and both locally and streamed 1080p video. It's also rocking 802.11n wireless spec, and RF. The remote is RF only, and had a full QWERTY keyboard on the back. Since it's RF only, though, there is no IR support built in. So, if you want to use your universal remote with Boxee you're going to need an IR dongle which it, thankfully, supports.
They also aren't including a hard drive in the little guy, which I think is a smart move. This way, it keeps costs down. Plus, most users will be streaming content from their network or online. Not to mention, that even if they want to have local video playing, USB expansion is still an option, so no sweat.
You can also start getting used to the new UI because the Beta is no longer closed. Boxee Beta is now available to every user. So head over and get downloading. The new UI is a pleasure to use and it's a vast improvement over the Alpha in terms of stability. I'm very much looking forward to using it more regularly, and even more so once I pick up a Boxee Box for myself. Or maybe they'll send me a demo device! ;)
