Google's Founders Reinvest In Their Shares

Larry Page and Sergey BrinLarry Page and Sergey Brin, the two fine fellows who started Google, are selling off some of their 57.7 million shares of Google stock, and transitively, a portion of their voting power. As of right now, the boys' 57.7 million shares account for 18% of Google's market value, and 59% of voting power. They're selling $2.25 billion worth of stock dropping them to 48% of voting power.

But, don't assume the guys are leaving or that they're sacrificing the company. Remember that majority rules in matters like these and in order for their 48% to be overruled, every single other stockholder would have to decide against them, which is highly unlikely.

According to Sergey and Brin, they're looking to have some more flexibility when it comes to their financial situation, and this is the simplest way to do it. With $2.25 billion more in their pockets, they've got that flexibility they were looking for, without giving up any more than they had to, and that chunk of change could certainly go toward polishing existing products or maybe launching a worldwide mobile device conquest? We'll see!
